Hello, unique plant lover! I am the String of Pearls, your fascinating and eye-catching succulent known for my trailing stems adorned with small, spherical leaves that resemble a string of green pearls. I'm a conversation-starting plant that brings whimsy, texture, and modern elegance to hanging baskets and shelves. I'm here to cascade beautifully and thrive with minimal care!
I'm a trailing succulent with long, slender stems that can grow several feet long, covered in pea-shaped leaves that store water.
My most distinctive feature is my spherical, bead-like leaves that range from bright green to bluish-green, often with a translucent stripe.
I produce small, white, cinnamon-scented flowers that add to my charm.
I'm a relatively fast grower in the right conditions and look spectacular in hanging planters where my pearl strings can drape freely.
I am native to the dry regions of Southwest Africa.
I am highly drought-tolerant.
Water me only when the soil is completely dry—usually every 2-3 weeks in summer.
In winter, I need even less water—once a month or less.
Overwatering is my biggest enemy—I'm prone to root rot if kept too wet.
I thrive in bright, indirect light.
Some direct morning sun is beneficial and helps maintain my compact growth.
I can tolerate some afternoon shade but may become leggy in too little light.
Avoid intense, direct afternoon sun which can scorch my pearls.
I enjoy average room temperatures between 18°C and 27°C.
I'm sensitive to cold—keep me away from temperatures below 10°C.
I prefer low to average humidity.
Use a very well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix.
Choose a hanging basket or pot with excellent drainage holes.
Plant me so the stems are resting on the soil surface—they will root along the nodes.
Water lightly after planting, then wait 1-2 weeks before watering again.
I can be easily propagated from stem cuttings placed on moist soil.
I look stunning in hanging baskets, on high shelves, or in terrariums.
I'm a light feeder. Use a diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring and once in summer.
No fertilizer needed in fall and winter.

I am toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested. My sap contains compounds that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and other symptoms. Please keep me out of reach of pets and children.
While I'm mainly grown for my unique appearance, I do help improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
Hey there!
